Children's Breakfasts

After reading studies on how children who didn't get breakfast fared poorly in school, the Black Panther Party started a breakfast program in 1969 that served 20,000 meals a week to Black schoolchildren in 36 different communities by the mid to late 70s.

They served young people breakfast in church basements, community centers and cafeterias. Their efforts ultimately helped to inspire the National School Breakfast program which expanded to all schools by 1975.

Today's quote:

Those seemingly ordinary moments of wonder in your life — when you are arrested by the sunset or swell of music or your child’s face, and the line between you and everything blurs — are not throw-away moments. They are actually portals into the sacred nature of things.
